Saturday Clinic
intro to outdoor movement
with Maiza Lima (she/her) presented by La Sportiva
Climber Requirements: Can top rope 5.7 indoors and know how to top rope belay.
Ever venture outside to climb and wonder where all of the colorful holds are? This clinic will go over everything you need to know to climb real rock. From how to read the route before you pull on to what to look for when you’re puzzled and stuck. We’ll dive into the fundamentals of climbing movement and how they translate to the outdoors, and cover essential skills such as the best ways to get to that first bolt safely, managing the rope (as a belayer and climber), and how to trust those oh so small feet.
Saturday Clinic
Trad for sport climbers
with Genevive Walker (she/her) presented by Flash Foxy Education
Climber Requirements: Must know how to belay someone lead climbing. Some experience leading sport climbs, indoors or outdoors, is required.
This clinic is for sport climbers who are ready to venture away from bolted cliffs, whether ready to lead or just stoked to follow, and learn the technical skills and components for traditional climbing! We’ll cover the essentials like learning how to place stoppers and cams, and we’ll also have candid conversations about risk and how to manage it when the variables start to add up. Our instructors will provide low-risk environments for practice and review the skills you need to continue your practice after the course. Maybe we’ll even convince you that trad can be less scary than sport climbing!
Saturday Clinic
Falling!!! on bolts
with Lor Sabourin (they/them) presented by SCARPA
Climber Requirements: Must be able to comfortably top rope 5.9. Must know how to lead belay. Some experience leading sport or trad is helpful but not required.
This training addresses falling directly to help improve commitment. We do progressive falling practice followed by movement, breathing, resting, and body/mind awareness exercises. Students leave understanding how to take appropriate risks and how to commit to those risks. Students will practice the following skills during this course: fall properly, give a dynamic (cushioned) belay, break a climb into smaller risk events, assess risk effectively, distinguish between no- and yes-fall zones, engage no- and yes-fall zones appropriately, make appropriate risk decisions, improve body/mind awareness, rest effectively, improve breathing, create flow and momentum, deal with climbing stress, commit more deliberately, reduce fear, and more!
SUNDAY
Sunday Clinic
INTRO To multipitch
with Maiza Lima (she/her) presented by Arc’teryx
Climber Requirements: Must know how to belay someone lead climbing. Participants have top roped a minimum of ten climbs on at least three separate occasions (indoors or outdoors). Some experience lead climbing or mock leading is required.
This course equips climbers with the know-how to climb and descend from routes longer than one rope-length. We’ll cover essentials like building multi-pitch anchors, taking the roles of leader and follower, rappelling from a multi-pitch route, staying safe and organized during transitions at anchors, and solving basic problems on routes. You’ll learn in a low-risk environment for practice and review the skills you need to continue your practice after the course. We’ll also discuss navigation, what to bring, and how to plan for your adventures. This is a skills-intensive course, and we’ll focus on learning fundamentals on the ground, then practicing those skills in a low-risk vertical setting with review and feedback. Most of our course time will be spent working on skills with very little rock climbing, so come prepared with comfortable but capable shoes!
Sunday Clinic
Secrets of the Steep
with Genevive Walker (she/her) presented by Flash Foxy Education
Climber Requirements: Must be able to comfortably top rope 5.10. Must know how to top rope belay. Some experience leading sport or trad is helpful but not required.
Have you ever seen those people nearly horizontal and somehow still on the wall? In this clinic you’ll learn the secrets to staying on the wall when everything is trying to kick you off, in no better place than the land of the steep itself. We’ll dive into steep climbing techniques, from how to take weight off your arms to dialing in your body positioning for the best tension.
